Police: Man Bites Off Part of Cabbie's Ear in Robbery

by KYW's Ian Bush

A man is under arrest after police say he robbed a Philaelphia cab driver and bit off part of his ear.

It happened just before 6am Saturday along the 3800 block of North Broad Street in the city's Tioga section.

Authorities say the 47-year-old suspect got in the Quaker City cab and demanded money. Police allege the guy bit off a chunk of the driver's ear, pushed him out of the car, and sped off.

He crashed the taxi into an SUV a block away, at Broad and Pike.

The suspect ran. But police caught up with him soon after and recovered a knife and more than 180 dollars.

His identity hasn't yet been released.

The victim, a 60-year-old man, was taken to Temple University Hospital with that ear wound and knee bruises. He's expected to be OK, but officials say the part of his ear that was bitten off likely can't be reattached
