Hundreds gathered behind Independence Hall to celebrate the 232nd anniversary of the public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Reenactors and rangers of the Independence National Historical Park took the hundreds gathered in Independence Square back to July 8th, 1776, four days after the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Second Continental Congress. On that day, the people of Philadelphia were summoned to the State House Yard by sound of bells and Colonel John Nixon read aloud the Declaration of Independence for the first time. Bob Talaffalo of Wisconsin was there with his family:
"I thought it was touching, moving. It gave you a real sense of, in a small way, what they went through."
Lynn is visiting from California:
"I get goose bumps. I can picture the men, writing and discussing."
