Governor Rendell is renewing his call for action on legislation that would authorize table games at Pennsylvania casinos.
Governor Rendell met with legislative leaders to discuss table games legislation earlier this month:
“Unfortunately, since that time there have been no face-to-face meetings among the leaders themselves.”
Senate Republicans say a meeting of the legislative leaders was scheduled earlier this week but was canceled when House Democrats did not show. Bob Caton, a spokesman for the House speaker would not confirm or deny that, but says there have been staff meetings about table games, the last piece of the state budget puzzle:
“It’s difficult to say, well okay, ‘if we’re not agreeing on the staff level, why would there suddenly be an agreement on the legislative level.’”
Erik Arneson is a spokesman for the Senate GOP leader:
“There have been discussions among the caucus staffs, but I’d describe them as superficial and not substantive.”
Arneson says his boss agrees on the need for direct meetings between legislative leaders and Rendell.
