Road Closure Means Big Delays in Radnor Township

by KYW's Jim Melwert

An emergency closure of a small bridge in Radnor Township, Delaware County is going create quite a headache for many area commuters, beginning with Tuesday morning's rush.  And officials say the bridge could be closed for a month.

The bridge is just south of Cabrini College, but King of Prussia Road is closed to thru traffic from Matsonford Road to Croton Road.

That's after crews found severe damage to the 75-year-old stone bridge that spans Gulph Creek.

Penndot spokesman Gene Blaum says about 16,000 cars use King of Prussia Road each day, and the spill-over onto other roads will create problems:

"Such as Route 320, South Gulph Road and Croton Road, so if you normally travel those roads during the day, you must allow extra time also, because the volumes are going to be much heavier over the next few weeks."

King of Prussia Road is a popular alternate route when other roads are jammed.  Blaum says it is open to local traffic up to the barriers on either side of the bridge.
