Funeral Arrangements for Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski; Street Closures

by KYW's Ed Fischer

The funeral procession for slain officer Sgt. Liczbinski was forcing the closure of some area roads in the area, including I-95 northbound between the Vine Street Expressway and Street Road.

(The closure was originally schedule from 1pm to 3pm, but because the funeral mass was delayed is now expected to be from about 2:30pm to 4pm.)

The mass of Christian burial will begin at 12 noon, followed by a funeral cortege and internment at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, in Bensalem.

The viewings for Sgt. Liczbinski are open to the general public, but seating inside the church is reserved for family, friends, police department personnel, and dignitaries.

The Friday viewing and church service will also be broadcast on a giant TV screen set up outside the basilica. There will be tents set up to protect the outdoor TV viewing area in case of inclement weather.

The following traffic advisories will be in effect for this event:

Between 7am and 1pm on Friday, the area surrounding the basilica was expected to be extremely congested.

At approximately 1:30pm, the funeral cortege was scheduled to proceed to Resurrection Cemetery, necessitating the following road closures:

  • Vine Street, from Logan Circle to the I-95 entrance at Broad Street.
  • I-676 (Vine St. expressway) eastbound, the entire length from the Schuylkill Expressway to I-95.
  • The exit from westbound I-676 to Broad Street will be closed for the cortege.
  • I-95 northbound from I-676 to Street Road in Bensalem, Pa.
