An 82-year-old South Jersey resident has a unique legacy to pass on to future generations: a salute to Israel 30 years in the making. And it’s on display at the assisted care facility in Voorhees; a town she now calls home.
Naomi Stoglin does “pettipoint”, extremely fine embroidery for the uninitiated. And over time, she’s made stitched versions of 62 stamps; every one issued by Israel over its 60 year existence:
“They’re 24 holes to an inch, and I blow up the stamp to about 3 times larger than the actual stamp is and I reproduce the stamp exactly as it is in the colors and everything and then I make my own interpretative borders.”
She’s also got a story to tell with each one. Her failing eyesight has brought this project to an end, but her will calls for the collection to remain at the Lions Gate Retirement Community for future generations to enjoy. |
