Schuylkill Runners Brave Heat to Help Homeless
|
by KYW’s John McDevitt
Hundreds braved the heat Saturday to run around the 8.4 mile Schuylkill River running loop in an ultra-marathon benefiting the homeless.
Re-energizing stations are positioned along the Schuylkill River drives and Philadelphia Fire Department paramedics at the ready. Philadelphia Daily News columnist Jenice Armstrong was among the runners in the "Back on my Feet Relay Challenge."
"It is so hot. I have never run in this kind of temperature before, but I run this course lots of times, so I thought ‘what the heck’. I really didn't think it through. I heard about this race and I heard about the founder, so I signed up."
More than $90,000 was raised for “Back on My Feet -- Helping Homeless” by offering connections to job training, education, scholarships and housing assistance.
