Sony Recalls Many Notebook Computers That May Overheat

by KYW's tech reporter Bob Bicknell

Sony is recalling hundreds of thousands of its "Vaio" notebook computers over a wiring flaw that could leave users burned, or worse.

The recall affects 440,000 Vaio notebook computers, and involves 19 models in the Vaio TZ series.

Sony says a wiring flaw near the display hinge could cause the computers to overheat.

The company says it has received more than 200 reports of such overheating worldwide, and seven reports of cases where users received minor burns.

Sony is offering in-home repairs or mail-in service to fix the problem.

The recall comes almost exactly two years after Sony recalled millions of laptop batteries, after a production flaw caused some to burst into flames.
