I'm sure you aren't expecting a friendly revival meeting when the Flyers and Penguins begin their series tonight in Pittsburgh.
These two teams don't like each other very much. In eight regular-season games, they accumulated 431 penalty minutes.
This doesn't figure to be a short, blow-out series. If you have tickets for the sixth game, here, I'd suggest you hold onto them.
If these teams write a little history, it won't be the first time. They have already played the longest game in league annals: five overtimes, 6hours and 56-minutes. It was May 4th, 2000 -- eight years ago.
Some of us even remember the Flyers winning the Stanley Cup in 1974 and '75. The Flyers' coach was Fred Shero. The current Pittsburgh general manager is Ray Shero, Fred's son.
When the Flyers won that first cup 34 years ago, the parade and celebration was indescribable. If they pull it off this time, it will make that one look like a South Philadelphia neighborhood picnic.
