by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert
His name is Steven. He's 14 year old, and he's a hit on the social circuit.
(Kane:) You like girls?
(Steven:) Yeah.
(Kane:) Girls like you?
(Steven:) Yeah.
(Kane:) How do you know that?
(Steven:) Because they’re always asking me out.
But Steven says he’s keeping his priorities straight:
(Kane:) So in class they’re trying to get to know you?
(Steven:) Yeah.
(Kane:) Is that a burden? Most people would like that.
(Steven:) I know, but I’m trying to do my work.
(Kane:) So work comes before girls?
(Steven:) Yeah.
(Kane:) It does?
(Steven:) Yeah, because I need my education.
Steven hopes to use that education to become a doctor:
(Kane:) How are your grades?
(Steven:) Good.
(Kane:) Tell me what’s good?
(Steven:) A's and B’s.
(Kane:) What are your favorite subjects?
(Steven:) Math and reading.
(Kane:) What do you like to read?
(Steven:) Books like "The Outsiders."
Steven also likes playing basketball and baseball, and he sings in the choir at his church:
“I love singing because it makes me express my feelings better.”
Sheena West is a teen recruiter with New Jersey's Division of Youth and Family Services:
“Steven is a very likable young man. He’s handsome. He has a great personality. I think he would make a great son to someone who’s ready to open their home and show him a lot of love and guidance that he needs.”
