Summer Months May Be Difficult During Pregnancy

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

If you are in the later months of pregnancy this time of year can be quite difficult.

Let’s face it, as the temperature goes up it becomes more difficult to stay in good spirits as you continue to grow along with your baby. Cool showers, air conditioning, a fan or, if you are lucky, a dip in the pool can help. Stay in the shade and don’t over do it.

The other issue is that the heat can add to a very common issue with pregnancy, mood swings.  Some ways to help deal with this are to get enough quality sleep and take a few quick breaks each day to just relax and unwind, or sneak in a quick nap.  Diet, reasonable exercise and talking out issues can also help as well. It is not an easy time but the more you talk with others and communicate your feelings the better.
