Now that we’re into the dog days of summer, you may need to protect your dog from several summertime hazards.
Fertilizers, herbicides, and other lawn treatments can be extremely dangerous if ingested or even if absorbed through the pads of their paws. Stay away from specially scented mulch, such as cocoa, which dogs find tasty, but can be fatal if ingested.
Sunblocks contain ingredients that although the scent may be appealing, are toxic to your dog. Topical insect repellents may also have a pleasing scent to your dog and can be extremely dangerous if ingested as well.
For your grill, stick with untreated charcoal, quick-starting charcoal is highly toxic, saturated with lighter fluid.
And of course, never ever leave your pets unattended in a parked car in warm weather. Temperatures can rise more than 30 degrees and become lethal in minutes. And NEVER tie your dog outside. Keep him cool with plenty of fresh water.
Stay cool as you enjoy the dog days and make sure your dog does too.
