Philadelphia police are seeking a teenage suspect following an overnight shooting in North Philadelphia, on the Temple University campus.
Investigators say a 19-year-old North Philadelphia woman was shot near the intersection at 15th and Norris Streets, right in front of Temple University's volleyball court. The victim was not a student at Temple.
She was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition as of 6am on Wednesday.
Investigators say it's likely that an arrest could happen soon; they were looking for a 19-year-old suspect identified as Marshall Thomas (bottom right photo), of the 900 block of Brown Street. Witnesses said he had an argument with the victim, then fled on a bicycle after the shooting.
One bullet shattered a window of the Temple University guard shack that overlooks the intersection (top photo), but a university police officer inside was not hurt.
Few Temple students remain on campus. Wednesday was the last day for final tests. This student who I caught up with wasn't a bit surprised about Tuesday night's shooting. He notes, though, that the area is heavily patrolled by both Temple and Philadelphia police:
"The random acts of violence go along with the murders and everything that's associated with it. Everything around this area, it's like an oasis in the middle of a jungle."
