A 17-year-old student is hospitalized in stable condition after, authorities say, he was shot by another student on a school bus in West Philadelphia Friday morning.
According to James Golden, the chief safety executive for the School District of Philadelphia, it was just past 8am when two students got into an argument on a school bus in the area of 57th and Pine Streets:
“One of those students, a 15-year-old, pulled out a firearm, and shot the other student - a 17-year-old victim.”
Golden says the victim suffered a graze wound to the back of the head. He was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The shooter fled the bus but, Golden says, he was apprehended by police a few blocks away.
No word on what sparked the argument.
There were 12 students on the bus at the time of the shooting. No one else was hurt.
All the students attend Community Eductation Partners, an alternative education school at 43rd and Westminster.
