Tiger Woods' season-ending knee surgery just adds to the legend, but many were already amazed at his US Open performance, bad wheel or not.
Stonewall head professional Eric McNamee, a good player in his own right, says he watched in awe as Tiger made yet another clutch Sunday putt to force the playoff:
"You know, he just knocks it in -- wills it in the hole. Same routine, there's no nerves or fidgeting or walking around. It's just utterly amazing that he can stay in the present with all that commotion going on. There's probably 25,000 people around the 18th green, along with the multitude of millions watching at home, and he can just zero that out and act like he's on his putting green at six o'clock at night on his home course."
McNamee says every golfer would love to develop just a fraction of that -- but he's afraid you either have it or you don't:
"I don't know how you practice that, but winners are separated by that type of stuff. (Michael) Jordan was the same way, where he wanted the ball with a couple seconds left, while with the other guys it is like a hot potato."
The Open is now history, but for more golf, join me on TV for Golfshots, presented by Buick, Sunday nights at 6pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
