Just in time for school, a University of Minnesota study which found that school lunch sales don't decline when healthier meals are served has been reproduced. In other words if kids are given healthy choices they seem to respond and accept the option. So, maybe getting school children to eat healthy foods isn't a hopeless struggle.
Remember, the conventional wisdom in the past has been, "you can't serve healthier meals because kids won't eat them." Previous studies have concluded students prefer fatty foods to healthier meals and they obviously cost more to make. Since the new information finds kids will eat healthy food if you give it to them, it is an important thing to look into.
Many argue that healthier foods cost more, but this is not true across the board. Careful thought and work with dieticians could lead to new solutions and help keep our kids healthier.
