Tourist Hit by Drunk Driver on Broad Street Dies

by KYW’s Jim Melwert

A St. Louis woman who was hit by a car on Thursday in South Philadelphia has died.

Cindy Grassi and her friend Sandra Wacker were visiting Philadelphia to see the St Louis Cardinals play the Phillies. But their visit ended in tragedy when the two were hit by a car while crossing Broad and Curtin Streets near the baseball stadium on Thursday  (see previous story).

43-year-old Grassi died from her injuries on Saturday. Wacker, who's 36, remains hospitalized.

The car that hit them was driven by 18-year-old Joseph Genovese, Police say he ran a red light.

He's been charged with several offenses including DUI and aggravated assault. Those charges have not been upgraded, that decision will rest with the District Attorney's office.
