Trial Ordered for 2, So Far, in Gallery Mall Attack

by KYW's Steve Tawa

Two of the five people charged in the apparently unprovoked attack on a woman last April in an underground concourse near 8th and Market Streets (see previous story) have been ordered to stand trial.

Victim Tyesha Tazwell, 24, has testified that as she was making her way through the concourse she felt "negative energy" from a large crowd of young people.  She said that one of them, a girl, politely said "excuse me," but when she turned to respond she was knocked to the ground and punched and kicked up to 12 times.

Assistant district attorney Christen Tuttle:

"There were others standing around chanting, 'Watch your mouth!' Several people in the group had matching t-shirts, on the back of which was the slogan, 'Watch your mouth.'  She didn't know them, and had no prior conversation with them, and was caught off guard by the attack."

Two 19-year-olds, Christine Wearry (above left) and Stanley Poland (above right), were ordered to stand trial on aggravated assault, robbery, and conspiracy charges.  A third adult defendant, 20-year-old Tamira Sinkler, faces a preliminary hearing in mid-October. Two juveniles will have their cases heard in Family Court.
