Tuberous Begonias

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’d like to find a flowering plant for a shady spot in the garden this season, a spectacular one is tuberous begonia.

Tuberous begonias are exciting plants that come in a wide variety of outstanding colors, bloom sizes, shapes and textures. Their blooms are a rich, velvety texture.  They can be smaller and multi-floraled or can be as large as six inches in diameter.

The beauty of these begonias is the color that they offer the shade garden. They range in color from bright reds and whites, saturated yellows and deep pinks, rose, apricot, bi-colored and even champagne.

Flowering from mid-summer until frost, averaging in height from 10-12 inches, tuberous begonias grow best in light shade and are hardy in USDA Zones 3-8.
