Two More Heat Deaths in Philadelphia

by KYW's Pat Loeb

Philadelphia health officials are blaming the heat for two more deaths in the city, bringing the total number of casualties from this latest heat wave to four. Both victims were men in their mid-50's who had other health problems.

The health department spokesman says a 55-year-old man in North Philadelphia was found dead Tuesday in his second floor bedroom. The home had no air conditioning or fan and just one open window. The cause of death was excessive exposure to heat and diabetes.

Also, late Tuesday night a 56-year-old man was found in his Kensington home. He had his windows open and two small fans but officials say the inside temperature was 91 degrees, at 1:30 in the morning.  He died of excessive exposure to heat, morbid obesity and congestive heart failure.
