United Health is offering an interesting type of Health Insurance, you basically buy a right to purchase an individual health policy at some point in the future even if you become sick.
Right now you are healthy. You have a job and health insurance, but you are worried about losing your job and health coverage, or you are thinking about retiring early before you qualify for Medicare. Wharton School professor Dr. Mark Pauly, an expert on Health Care, has this opinion:
"I think it is a good idea for people who are worried that they may need to get into the individual insurance market either when they retire or lose their job for some unexpected reason. And are worried that when that happens, even if they are healthy today, they might be unhealthy at that point and would have to pay a high premium for health insurance."
Pauly says plans like this guarantees you'll have the chance that you'll pay the same premium as a healthy person would -- no matter what your current state of health.
But Dr. Pauly recommends you take a good long look at whether or not it would be worth it. This plan is available in Pennsylvania and Delaware, but not in New Jersey.
