Univ. of Pennsylvania Opens New Cultural Heritage Center

by KYW's Karin Phillips

The University of Pennsylvania is establishing the new center that will examine the issues surrounding cultural heritage.

Dr. Richard Leventhal, founder and director of the new Penn Cultural Heritage Center, says cultural heritage is one of the global issues of the time.

Who are you, where did you come from, where do you belong or where do you think you belong, and he says it's an issue that has to be managed for the world's future:

"It's not just economic wealth. It's in fact how one can maintain a vision of themselves as being separate from and different from other people. Diversity is a critical piece. We really don't want to be just like everybody else. We may want to have things, like everyone else has them, but we still want to be a unique entity. Whether that's an individual, a family, a community or a country."
