Upper Darby Police Arrest 3 in Home Invasion Sting

by KYW's David Madden

Upper Darby, Pa. police had three people in custody and were looking for two others in connection with a violent home invasion last week. Those arrested were captured Wednesday night in a police sting at the scene of the original crime.

Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says the victim was taken from his house, on Ruskin Lane near Millbank, to a West Philadelphia house by several members of a violent drug gang:

"They proceeded to torture him, trying to get money and drugs. They were unable to get anything from him, but in order to let him live, he had to set up a fairly big drug dealer out of the Philadelphia area."

Instead, the victim set up his alleged attackers -- with three of them getting inside the house and subsequently being trapped by police SWAT teams.

The alleged gang leader, 22-year-old Byron Cassidy, was wearing an ankle monitor when arrested. He was supposed to be confined to his Wynnewood Road home in West Philadelphia, on house arrest for a federal drug conviction.  Chitwood says that indicates that "someone's not watching the store."

He’s back behind bars now, along with co-defendants Kaliff Wilson and Devon Skates. Arrest warrants were issued for two others.
