Verizon is out with its answer to the iPhone - the new "Droid" smartphone.
Because all the marketing for the Droid smartphone is about comparing it to the iPhone, let’s do a tale of the tape.
In the Droid’s corner, a larger screen, a slide-out keyboard, a higher-resolution camera -- with a flash -- and Google’s new second-generation Android operating system. Android lets you run two or more programs at once. It also features turn-by-turn voice navigation.
The iPhone has a thinner profile, a smoother-running interface, and an app store that dwarfs Google’s, which, admittedly, is much younger.
While the iPhone doesn’t have a physical keyboard, it’s an even split, since the Droid’s keys are way too flat to type naturally. Is Droid an iPhone killer? Probably not. But I sure would be nervous if I were a Blackberry.
The Droid sells for $199 with a two-year contract with Verizon Wireless.
