A former congressman who was instrumental in working to bring a national veterans cemetery to Bucks County, Pa. is pleased that the deal is just about wrapped up.
Luxury homebuilder Toll Brothers on Thursday was expected to sign over more than 200 acres of land in Upper Makefield to the federal government. That land will become the cemetery with construction expected to begin next spring.
Former Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick says southeastern Pennsylvania needed a dedicated cemetery since Beverly, New Jersey was full and Fort Indiantown Gap was too far away:
“So if you’re a family member of a deceased veteran to have to travel two hours to visit the grave site of a loved one really is unacceptable.”
Designs for the cemetery are now being drawn up and public meetings on the plans could come in six weeks.
The federal government is paying Toll Brothers more than $10 million for the land. |
