After thwarting a possible Columbine-like attack at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, Montgomery County authorities say a disturbed teenager now in police custody may have had help from his parents.
Police say the 14-year-old, a former Plymouth-Whitemarsh student, approached a current student about staging a Columbine-style attack at the school. Police went to the boy's house, and found more than 30 BB guns, swords, four hand grenades, videos and books including The Anarchist's Handbook in his bedroom.
But DA Bruce Castor says the 14-year-old's fantasy revenge attack on school bullies may have crossed into reality, when his mother bought him a nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol at a recent gun show:
"It was legally purchased, we understand, by the boy's mother for him. I think that is likely a criminal act, and there may be other criminal acts."
The DA is considering charges against the mother. Castor says he does not believe an attack at Plymouth-Whitemarsh was imminent, because no ammunition was found in the boy's house.
