Philadelphia's tourism corporation has won three major awards for its work in promoting the City of Brotherly Love as a tourist destination.
Tourism campaigns by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation have received three major Odyssey awards from the Travel Industry of America, the first time a single organization has been recognized for its work multiple times in the same year. GPTMC President and CEO Meryl Levitz notes that Philadelphia wasn't even a major tourism destination just a decade ago:
”The branding of Philadelphia, the growth and strengthening of the image, and broadening of the image of Philadelphia has also had a good effect on student enrollment in universities, in people wanting to come and open their business. Once there's a glow around a destination, people say not only ‘I want to visit there, but you know what, I might want to live there’.”
