Volunteers are needed to plant hundreds of trees throughout the City of Philadelphia.
The project is TreeVitalize, a special volunteer effort by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to plant almost 700 trees this fall throughout the city of Philadelphia. Patrice Carroll, Project Director, says flatly, that Philadelphia does not have enough trees, which can increase property values by up to 10 percent, decrease storm water runoff, and reduce carbon in the atmosphere:
"There's also something called Heat Island, which we experience every summer in Philadelphia, in places where there are fewer trees and more concrete and buildings, we know the temperatures can be five degrees, sometimes, even hotter than in places where are more green space and more trees."
