Marc

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

Like most kids his age, 14-year-old Marc loves sports:

(Marc:) "When I get older, I want to be a basketball player."

(Kane:) "Let's say you go to college and the basketball doesn't work out. What would be your backup?"

(Marc:) "To own my own clothing store, because a lot of people buy clothes."

(Kane:) "Do you think you have a knack for clothing?"

(Marc:) "Yeah."

(Kane:) "Do you like clothes?"

(Marc:) "Yes. Just the styles and how they look."

(Kane:) "Do you consider yourself a very stylish person?"

(Marc:) "Yes."

Karamoko Andrews, Marc's adoption case manager, describes Marc as outgoing:

"He's a very fun kid to be around, and Marc has a great sense of style, a great sense of personal hygiene.  He's really grown in these last 3½ years that I've known him, and although Marc can have these one-word answers and appear timid, he isn't."

But even though Marc has a lot of friends, what he wants most of all is a family:

(Marc:) "To have people caring for me."

(Kane:) "You want people to care about you?"

(Marc:) "Yeah."

(Kane:) "What would you want especially from parents?  What would you want mostly?"

(Marc:) "Them to pay more attention to me."

(Kane:) "How about hugs and kisses?"

(Marc:) "Just hugs."

Andrews describes the benefits of adopting someone Marc's age:

"When you adopt a teenager, there's no changing diapers, there's no buying formula, and there's no daycare.  Marc is definitely of an age where he takes responsibility and can watch himself, let himself in the house. He's fun. And with the teenager, they're usually pretty exciting and they make you enjoy life. I know being around him makes me feel a little younger."

And Andrews says he really admires Marc:

"Above all, Marc is quite resilient."
