Phila. Mayoral Candidates Spend Final Day on Campaign Trail

by KYW's Mike Dunn

Amid predictions of a record low turnout, the two major candidates for mayor in Philadelphia are spending a final day searching for votes.

Michael Nutter greeted potential voters on Monday in the lunchtime crowd at the Reading Terminal Market, and he insists that neither the predicted rain, nor apathy, will keep voters at home Tuesday:

"I think the citizens of Philadelphia are sufficiently motivated and excited about this election, that I'm not sure much of anything that happens tomorrow will stop people from coming out to the polls."

Meantime, his under-financed GOP rival, Al Taubenberger, said that whatever the outcome, he was glad to be part of an important process:

"The fact that people have the opportunity to vote for myself or my opponent, that's really what it's all about. And I feel very upbeat about it, and let's just see what happens tomorrow."

Both plan to be out early to vote. The polls open at 7am Tuesday.
