The man charged with the murder of Philadelphia police officer Chuck Cassidy spoke to reporters late Tuesday night as he was being escorted through a Miami police station following a five-hour police interrogation -- and he made a frank and perhaps startling admission of guilt.
John (Jordan) Lewis, 21, was asked by reporters if he had anything to say to the family of Chuck Cassidy:
"I apologize to his family. I never meant nothing to happen like this. You know, I can't change it."
(Reporter 1:) "You confess to the killing?"
(Lewis:) "Yes."
(Reporter 2:) "Were you the man in the black hooded sweatshirt?"
(Lewis:) "No more questions."
(Reporter 3:) "Do you have any remorse?"
(Lewis:) "Yes."
Lewis fled to Miami after shooting Officer Cassidy last Wednesday morning at a Dunkin Donuts store in West Oak Lane. He was arrested Monday morning at a homeless shelter and was awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia (see related story).
