Philadelphia Mayor John Street will leave office in a couple months, but he already has a new job lined up.
Mayor Street will soon by called Professor Street when he joins Temple University's college of Liberal Arts. Assistant Dean Joe McLaughlin says the idea was actually sparked by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell:
"The idea really originated with Governor Rendell who suggested to the Mayor that he might try teaching after leaving the mayor's office, and the mayor - who had been a teacher before entering public office - thought that was a great idea. And we were approached and we were interested and that's how it came to be."
Street will be teaching a couple undergraduate sections on urban politics and policy, including funding public schools, building stadiums and other very local issues. McLaughlin says the classes will be mainly made up of juniors and seniors.
