'Apprentice' Contestant Announces Bid for Congress

By KYW’s Sonia Rincon
We've seen athletes and actors run for office, but this may be the first reality TV star.  Raj Bhakta, the bow-tie wearing young businessman featured on the second season NBC's "The Apprentice," wants to represent Montgomery county and part of Philadelphia in Congress.

When Bhakta got the boot from Donald Trump, he promised, "America hasn't seen the last of Raj." The 29-year old half Indian-half Irish Philly native is running for the 13th district seat, as, what he calls, a "Theodore Roosevelt" Republican.

"A Republican who is a conservative but at the same time not afraid to take on the establishment on important issues."

And the important issues in the district, he says are the same ones across the nation.

"We have the health care crisis looming over this country, we need, especially in this area, tort reform. Clearly we have an education system that's in serious need of change."

A graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, Bhakta bas worked as a real estate developer in Colorado. He says as a first generation American, he's living the American dream and believes that dream will come under increasing pressure in the future if there aren't some big changes now.
