Alma -- Adopted!

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

We'd like to share some great news in this edition of Wednesday's Child.  One of the children featured right here on KYW Newsradio had her adoption finalized a few weeks ago.

Fourteen-year old Alma says her new home is great:

"I just couldn't believe that I had my own room. I was like, 'I'm getting my own room, I'm getting my own bed!' I'm like, 'That's so cool!' "

New mom Tina says she first met Alma at an adoption-themed party sponsored by the National Adoption Center at a roller skating rink:

"Alma was incredibly shy. Her hair was very short, just hitting her shoulder blades, and she was hiding behind her hair, barely making eye contact."

That's a far cry from the girl now sitting at the table of her new home. Alma admits, though, that it was scary getting to know the people who would become her mom and dad:

"We just started finding stuff that we like to do, so that's when I started getting to know them better and stuff."

That stuff features playing basketball with dad, and long walks with mom that include some good, heart-to-heart talks.

Dad, David, says KYW Newsradio's Wednesday's Child helped him learn more about Alma:

"KYW really had a big role to play in this adoption, I mean, I wouldn't have had the information that I had about her and might not have built up the story in my head about her without that."

Best wishes to Alma, Tina, and David!
