Phila. Pair Charged in Widespread ID Theft Scams

by KYW's Tony Hanson

Philadelphia police say the FBI is now assisting in the investigation of a center city couple accused of stealing the identities of neighbors and fellow students to live the very high life.

Police say a neighbor at the Belgravia House condos, in the 1800 block of Chestnut Street, recently reported a suspected identity theft, and the investigation led straight to 25-year-old Edward Anderton (right) -- a former University of Pennsylvania student -- and Jocelyn Kirsch (below), a current student at Drexel.

Philadelphia police detective Terry Sweeney says there is plenty of evidence of the greed and arrogance of the suspected couple:

"Approximately $17,500 dollars in cash, $1,500 dollars in gift certificates, various credit cards in the names of our known compliantants and several unknown complaintants, approximately 20 to 25 forged, faked identities [top photo]."

And there’s photo evidence of lavish vacations. Sweeney says the known amount of theft is believed to be at least $100,000 -- and counting. The feds will be combing through the couple's computer hard drives to determine the extent of the alleged crimes.
