The entrance of Chaka Fattah into the Mayor’s race will quickly fuel speculation that Mayor Street is interested in Fattah’s congressional seat when he leaves City Hall.
From the start of the early speculation that Chaka Fattah would run for mayor, political observers also speculated that John Street would happily pursue Fattah’s congressional seat when his term in office expires. And Street is now doing little to quash those theories, saying clearly that running for the US House is an option:
“I can only tell you that I am keeping all of my options open as career choices after I leave the Mayor’s office. And that’s one of them.”
Chaka Fattah though said earlier this year he would prefer to see an African American woman succeed him in Congress and he said there are several in City Council and Harrisburg who would serve well.
