Shopping for Ergonomic Tools

by KYW's Fran Sorin

More manufacturers are offering ergonomic tools because they tend to be easier to use and less harmful to the body than conventional tools.

Here are some tips on buying the right ergonomic tool for you:

Look for a tool that feels good in your hand, and that is sturdy and well constructed. A tool that is either too heavy or too light is not a good choice.

Simulate the action you’ll be doing with the tool. If the tool feels natural, it will be easier to use and make for more productive work.

Make sure the grip size is right for you: it helps to control fatigue and gives you better control. As far as texture, a soft, non-slip surface is considered desirable but this is strictly a personal choice.
