Divorce is Bad for the Environment

by KYW's Fran Sorin

Divorce, thought of as having negative effects on the family unit, children, finances and one’s emotions, is now being considered as having a bad influence in another arena.

Divorce is now being seen as detrimental to the environment. Because of the significant increase in divorce rates over the past several years, there are fewer individuals per household. This translates into more usage of space, energy and water as published last week in the Proceedings of The National Academy of Sciences.

This phenomenon is happening in countries besides the United States, like China and places with strict religious policies that are against divorce. The effects of divorce on the environment are being witnessed everywhere.

The bottom line is: if you want to help the environment, stay married!
