CBS3 anchor Alycia Lane spent spent some time behind bars in the Big Apple on Sunday, after police say she was involved in a scuffle that left a New York City cop hurt.
Lane allegedly struck a city police officer in the face.
A New York City police spokesman says Lane was arrested around 2am Sunday at West 17th Street and 9th Avenue. Police say Lane had an altercation with a female police officer and struck the officer in the face, causing some lacerations.
In a copy of the police report obtained by KYW Newsradio, police say Lane made deragatory remarks to the cop before the alleged assault.
Lane pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault charges at an arraignment hearing Sunday evening, and was released. A hearing has been set for April 3rd.
Lane has retained New York City attorney David Smith. Smith tells KYW Newsradio that Lane was accosted by several plainclothes officers while trying to take a photograph. Smith says Lane never made any remarks to the officer or struck anyone. The attorney also says he believes Lane will be cleared of all charges when the facts come out.
A CBS3 spokeswoman says the station has "no official comment at this time except to say that we are very concerned for Alycia. We are still trying to sort out exactly what happened." Later, the spokeswoman said that Lane, who had been schedule to begin a two-week vacation next Monday, would start her vacation a week early.
CBS3 and KYW Newsradio are owned by the same parent company, CBS.
