Classes at three Delaware Valley high schools were disrupted Tuesday morning due to three unrelated incidents.
At Frankford High School in Philadelphia, police say, an unidentified student attempted to bring a handgun into the school inside his bookbag.
Security personnel using metal detectors discovered the gun, and alarms were set off. The student then ran away and remains at large. Both Philadelphia police and school district police were searching for the student.
The high school was immediately placed in a precautionary lockdown for about an hour, according to police. No one was hurt. Officials say the gun was not loaded.
Also on Tuesday morning, Council Rock South High School dismissed its entire student body as a precaution, after an anonymous bomb threat was phoned in.
Northampton Township police were conducting an investigation, and officers swept the entire school facility.
There were no immediate suspects and no arrests, and no bomb was found.
All after-school and evening activities were also canceled at Council Rock South.
And at Germantown High School in Philadelphia, some students were staging a protest on Tuesday morning. They were reportedly upset about heating problems at the school.
