A Web Site for Birdwatchers

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’re an avid bird watcher, you’ll be delighted to hear about a fabulous bird watching web site.

The name of the site is www.geobirds.com. It is a free service, open to all, that makes bird watching easy.

The creator of the site, James Peters, likens it to a kind of Facebook for birders. Every sighting that is posted by users becomes immediately available to every other member. Geobirds also has the ability to show users how precise they can be about the location where they saw the bird.  Sometimes, it can track the exact field, tree or rock where the bird was sighted.

Geobirds also offers BirdBrain, a web application that helps users identify birds in their areas quickly. BirdBrain’s identification tool automatically tells users which bird they probably saw. This is a site worth checking out.
