Upper Darby will serve as the latest local “Weed and Seed” revitalization site. The announcement was made by the local US attorney.
The designation brings $1 million over the next five years to help deal with crime and improve the quality of life.
But for US Attorney Pat Meehan, it’s more than just the money:
“This is bringing together in one forum the community activists, the neighborhood groups, the small business owners, people in our social services sector and having the full support of the county and township behind this. That’s all of this work in collaberation. That’s the secret of the Weed and Seed.”
Efforts will be targeted in the Stonehurst Hills, Bywood, and Cardington neighborhoods on the township’s east end.
Upper Darby joins sections of North and West Philadelphia, along with Bristol and Coatesville, as previous “Weed and Seed” locations.
