Flowering Plants

by KYW's Fran Sorin

This time of year bringing flowering plants into the house not only adds beauty but can also have a significant effect on how you feel as well as keeping you in touch with nature.

After the first of the year when things have calmed down a bit, I always treat myself to a few flowering plants to enjoy over the winter.

One of my favorites is abutilon which is a tropical plant with showy, bell-shaped flowers that comes in a variety of colors.  It does well in full light and blooms abundantly throughout the winter.

Another plant that I couldn’t be without during the cold months is jasmine.  Most jasmines have pretty white flowers but it is the glorious scent of these blooms that compels me to have it in my home each winter.
