A Back Road to NJ Shore Faces 1½-Year Detour

by KYW's David Madden

Starting this weekend and for the next year, a popular back road route to Atlantic City and Brigintine, NJ won’t be an option.

Delilah Road will be closed starting Saturday, January 5th, 2008, between Route 30 and Shore Road in Absecon and Pleasantville.

It’s part of a $30-million repair project, according to Erin Phalon with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. She says that three bridges that go over Route 30, some New Jersey Transit tracks, and some local water mains are being replaced:

"The structures are very old. They were originally constructed between 1935 and 1939. They’re all considered structurally deficient."

Locals will have to use a detour involving Fire Road and Route 30 until the project is completed -- by Memorial Day 2009.

As for the summer season to come, it’s thought that the major roads like the Atlantic City Expressway will handle the traffic just fine.
