Area Hotels Get Diversity Training to Accomodate Gay Guests

by KYW's Karin Phillips

The Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus and Temple University are joining in a hotel diversity training series that addresses the issues of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans gender travelers.

Several employees at the Lowes Philadelphia hotel watch a skit about a gay couple checking into a hotel and then join in a discussion about what went right and what went wrong.  Jeff Guarcino is co-founder of the Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus.

He says several more hotels will go through the training.

"Everybody's been in a position where you don't know what to say, or maybe how to act."

Alexandria June works in Lowes' Front Office:

"It gives me a different outlook on their perspective.  So I get to hear what they say.  Because I'm used to saying what I have to say to them."

Jeff Cromartie is Training Manager:

"We need to be more sensitized to how they're feeling.  It was a great tool and something that I think we're going to bring back again."
