Philadelphia mayoral candidate Michael Nutter is proposing a series of debates for the upcoming mayoral, City Council, and row office elections next year.
The former councilman says folks need to get the candidates' takes on education, crime, housing, ethics, economic development, and other issues.:
"I look forward to an exciting debate season, coming up in January."
His self-titled "Road to City Hall" campaign debate series -- to be held every week in various locations throughout the city -- would be handled by various organizations including the Committee of Seventy, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, Asian Americans United, and others.
"In an environment of campaign finance reform, it's expected there may be less money raised and spent in the course of this election for ads and the rest of the normal communications."
Nutter has appealed a recent decision in Common Pleas Court that threw out the city's campaign contribution limits. He wants to see the limits upheld -- at $5,000 from an individual, and $20,000 from a political committee.
