Hundreds were expected to gather Thursday night in Dilworth Plaza, to honor those who have died this year trying to live homeless in Philadelphia.
According to homeless advocates, 48 homeless men, women, and children died on the streets of Philadelphia during 2006.
Lynne Collins is with Project HOME's outreach coordination program and says those 48 will be honored during a ceremony on Dilworth Plaza as part of National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day.
Collins says the ceremony also honors those who work to help the homeless:
”We remember the lives of those who have lost their lives due to homelessness and to understand they too make a difference; and the difference is that we want to help to try to stop this and to fight this.”
Project HOME says there about 400 people living on Philadelphia's streets.
