A former Camden County volunteer fire police chief has his day in court after being charged with arson.
He helped fight fires, but now a jury has found 47-year-old Bryan Sharp guilty of aggravated arson. Prosecutors say Sharp set fire to his home in Barrington in December, 2003 so he could collect insurance money.
Michael Chewkanes from the Camden County Prosecutors office says the fire was suspicious from the beginning:
"I think they put forth that it may have been one of the sons accidentally discarded a cigarette and that's what caused it, but the test burns that we conducted or the fire department and police conducted, didn't support that from our point of view."
The insurance company ended up paying out $275,000 to Sharp. He faces five to ten years in jail. Sentencing is scheduled for February 2nd.
