Brugmansias

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’re a lover of exotic, dazzling, intoxicatingly fragrant tropical plants, then you need to check out brugmansia, commonly known as angel’s trumpet.

As a huge fan of this plant for several years, I can’t say enough positive things about it. First, it is visually a knock out with gargantuan trumpet like blooms and it comes in a variety of colors that include: apricot, yellow, pinks, whites with purple fringe and white.

It is easily grown from seed (but not always true to color).  If you buy a smaller plant now and let it thrive indoors until late spring, by summertime, you will have one explosive blooming center piece plant.

Brugmansias do need full sun, lots of water and fertilizer and can be grown in either pots or in mixed borders. Don’t be without at least a few this season.
