Ornamental Grasses in Containers

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you’d like to grow a meadow on your property but your gardening is limited to a terrace, deck or patio, you might want to consider growing ornamental grasses in containers.

Due to the extraordinary shapes, sizes and movements of ornamental grasses, by mixing a few choice ones in a container, you can create an ornamental grass paradise. For example, if you plant a showy fountain like grass with dancing seedheads such as pennisetum in tandem with a low growing sedge, also known as carex, you’ve got yourself an outstanding looking container.

And if you want to make it more dramatic, add in flowers or succulents.  One of my favorite combinations is positioning a silver green agave in a large container with two other grasses. It’s breathtaking.
